Today, I wanted to introduce a few of my peaceful and feel-good songs since I felt happy and lazy today. I downloaded Animal Crossing on my phone and it was the only phone in the house that was not bought in Korea (the phone version of Animal Crossing is not available in the Korean Apps Store!). I remember playing this on my Nintendo DS years ago... My sister and I played the game together on our beds, laughing and just lazing off. I think we were enjoying the calm before heading back to reality and doing work.
Rather than explaining and describing each song in depth, I think it’ll be a fun experience to just let the music elevate our moods while we listen to them. There are five songs I wanted to share:
One. always, i’ll care by Jeremy Zucker (2020) is a cute song that is a mix of twinkling piano, guitar melodies and soft percussion to enhance Zucker’s calm voice. The song sings of platonic love, the action of caring even when we are far apart. It is a subtle and sweet reminder that we always care for eachother.
Two. Blueless Bird by Joni (2015) is… just so pretty. It has a feeling of nature and the old days. The lyrics are a little sad, but the melody is calming.
Three. Swim by ADOY (2019). I guess the songs are getting a litter sadder in the order I introduce them. Adoy is a Korean indie band that creates music that is nostalgic of the past (much like the 80s?). Some tracks are similar to city pop, but seem to have a more sophisticated and modern take on the genre. Swim falls under the album Pool.
Four. Everything by the Black Skirts (2016) is definitely a slow, of-the-past type of song that reminiscences of past memories and love. It’s a little sad and happy at the same time, which is a little odd but perfectly makes sense at the same time(?).
There was a funny comment that mentioned this duality, "it's a sad song if you listen after a break up, but it's a love song when you're in love"
이별하고 들으면 이별노래
사랑할때 들으면 사랑노래
Five. Homebody by pH-1(2018) is a song that pretty much wraps up the situation of most people who were displaced or forced to stay home for either the quarantine or just to practice social distance.
바삐 움직이며 사는 삶
생각 안 하고 딱 하루만
Staying home today
Staying home today
I don’t wanna meet
I don’t wanna see
I just wanna be
free as a bird
I did write my entries right around the final days of the quarantine so I had the OK to leave the house. But the majority of my time was spent indoors. Honestly it wasn’t tooo hard to stay home since I was usually in front of my computer finishing up work for school anyway and I was happy to use my piano and guitar again. It was also a good opportunity for me to gather my thoughts and worries I had while in RISD and pick up some books to read. Ever since I bought a pump to inflate our volleyball again, I spent almost everyday rallying with my sister and trying to break our previous record (we are at around 160 right now). With only a few weeks left of online school, hopefully I’ll have more time to actually rest, plan for the future and learn something new.
